A catalytic reaction with a huge potential
Olefin metathesis stands first and foremost among the emerging catalytic reactions that possess a huge potential for the industry.
This reaction has attracted a lot of academic research and led to improvements in the development of biologically active compounds, polymeric materials and industrial syntheses. This resulted in the 2005 Nobel Prize being awarded to three pioneers (Dr. Yves Chauvin, Prof. Richard Schrock and Prof. Robert Grubbs) for their work in the area.
However the potential of olefin metathesis has not been fully exploited yet, due to some of its environmental and economic drawbacks, as metal contamination from the catalyst in the end product, too high catalyst loading (low TON1 and TOF2), or cost.
The new technology developed by Oméga Cat System brings about new solutions to those problems and leads towards more effective and more sustainable olefin metathesis processes.
